James Mason, The Dirt Road Home

James Mason, The Dirt Road Home

With over 22 years of building experience, and being a professional builder himself, James Mason knows his way around a construction site. He has had his fair share of building mishaps, dreams come true and has all the DIY Tips & Tricks to share and help others.

After selling their family home, they purchased open land where they could build “The Dirt Road Home”. Spending the last two years living in a caravan on their developing property, James and his family have now moved into their dream home.

We followed the process as Renovation Junkie James Mason has created a modern farmhouse on the Sunshine Coast. We delve into the process of the bathroom, ensuite and powder room build from scratch and take a look behind what creates a modern farmhouse design.

Step 1: Planning

Starting from an open block of land, James has built from the ground up. First step was planning the spaces, as this is a new build he had more flexibility of where he placed his items and the size of his bathrooms. The Dirt Road Home features a generous luxury ensuite, functional & sleek main bathroom and a spacious powder room.

Step 2: Product Selections

Knowing the dimensions and desired layout of the home, it’s time for the fun decisions… product selection time. Going for a modern farmhouse design throughout the home, the bathrooms feature clean whites, with a splash of navy, high ceilings and open light-filled spaces. You will also find bold matte black tapware and shower fittings throughout the entire home to add a modern edge to this delicate design.

Product selections for the ensuite, includes a walk in shower to provide an open and spacious design. The main bathroom will include functionality and style for a family, with a freestanding bath, walk in shower with a rain shower head for full body coverage and an undermount basin for a sleek and seamless finish. The powder room will feature a LED Mirror as an extra source of light due to the lack of windows in this space. It will also use a wall hung vanity in this smaller space to add the illusion of more room. Keeping the design consistent, you will find matte black tapware, shower outlets and accessories throughout all bathrooms.

Step 3: Get your products delivered

At Highgrove Bathrooms, we take care of your bathroom products from start to finish, to make your experience happy and stress-free. We can help you with your bathroom design, product layout, recommend local trades and delivery your order to your door.

James got his products delivered and unloaded straight into the safety of the double garage until they were ready to be installed.

Step 4: Fit Off & Final Touches

Now is crunch time as the bathrooms are beginning to take shape. After being sheeted, waterproofed, tiled and the shower glass installed by licenced glaziers, it is time for the plumbing fit off.

Ensuring all the plumbing is connected and products installed correctly, you can then add the final touches; installing the bathroom accessories, cleaning the styling the spaces.

Bathroom Reveal

From a block of land to a functional farmhouse, this home doesn’t disappoint. All three bathrooms were created with a modern farmhouse design. Featuring simple whites and neutral greys, the pallet is broken up with a bold navy wall hung vanity in each room. You will also find the same classic patterned statement tiles in the main bathroom and powder room to add to this design.

The light filled, open and luxury ensuite features a walk-in double shower with a statement window, a splash of colour in wall hung vanity, a hidden toilet and smooth, elegant matte black SPIN Tapware and EDEN Accessories.

James’ main bathroom is packed with functionality, incorporating a modern walk-in shower and a freestanding bath, perfect for their family. They have used an undermount sink that fits seamlessly into the design of the vanity, with edgy matte black tapware to create a contrast in this area.

This powder room feels glamourous and warm with the LED Mirror lighting up the entire room. Utilising the wall hung vanity in this smaller room provides the illusion of more space and by adding a bench mount basin, you will get more room for storage in cupboards.
