Open and Airy Guest Bathroom Renovation

From a dull, small space to an open and airy guest bathroom, this bathroom has completely transformed into a contemporary dream. We spoke with home owner, Tanya on how she achieved her beautiful bathroom design.

“I recently extended my home, which included a new ensuite and after looking at the new space compared to the old bathrooms, I wanted both spaces to be on the same level of quality and style. The bathroom is currently my daughters ensuite but now that she is moving out to university, I knew that this would be my best chance to renovate the bathroom to turn it into the guest area.

As it is a smaller room, I wanted to make it feel more open and inviting and I used small tricks to make the room look and feel more spacious. First big difference was that I changed the floor mount vanity to be wall hung and the additional area that is now underneath the vanity has already made the room feel larger as you had more floor space. Another slight change that made a big difference was changing my Square shaped shower to a Diamond Frameless Shower Kit from Highgrove Bathrooms. The shape and angled design allowed me to install a bigger size shower than the shower I had before and opened up even more floor area. We also added an EZILAY XPS Square Shower Niche 70mm which created more space in the shower and allows for all size shampoos and soaps to be stored, plus it was a lot better than my rusty shower caddies.

The room was previously darker and dull and I wanted to lighten this bathroom. Using a more neutral colour palette in this space, I chose light tiles and white fixtures which helps to bounce the light around the room and make it feel more open and brighter. I have also achieved this lighter look by using a REFLEKTA LED Mirror in this bathroom and it is a perfect addition to this space. As it is a smaller bathroom, the light from the LED mirror fills the bathroom with light and my daughters love that you can change the colour from a cool white light to a warm golden light, for creating an ambience that also seeps into the bedroom. It is also great for getting ready at night and in the morning.

As it is a guest bathroom, I wanted to use finishes that would be easy to maintain and will stay clean in-between guest’s visits. That’s why I have selected Chrome fittings for my shower outlets and tapware. The EDEN Hand Shower was a great decision and we have installed it to sit as an overhead shower. Our guests have loved the four different spray functions and have always been able to find a favourite! I paired this with the OLLIE In Wall Mixer Set as the design is super neat and it doesn't overpower the shower space, it also matches the OLLIE Tall Basin Mixer on the vanity. I love its impressive and modern design that fits so well with my vanity and basin.

In this bathroom we used the SPIN Rimless Wall Faced Toilet Suite. The back to wall design not only created more space in my bathroom but also looks great in the room. Another bonus is the rimless flushing also makes the toilet cleaner and cuts down on my cleaning time.

In the vanity area, I am in love with the luxurious finish of the matte white that comes from the SWELL Wall Hung Vanity and the EDEN Bench Mount Basin. The elegant basin shape has lovely curves that match my tapware and mirror and the vanity makes a statement with its unique detailed design that I've already had so many great comments about. On top sits the MADERA Timber Vanity Top, which makes this bathroom feel so warm & inviting with its organic tones and textures when used with the other matte products.

I am so happy with how this bathroom turned out and am excited for when guests come over to use it. This bathroom is now one of my favourite rooms in my house and I am so proud of how it has transformed.
